PCT Looking For Community Representatives

St Mary's Hospital

Islanders are being recruited to a panel that will decide how GP services are delivered in Scilly from next summer.

During the summer, the Primary Care Trust awarded a Helston-based GP practice a short-term contract running until next July.

They only offered a short arrangement because they wanted to assess community feedback on how health services could be better organised.

Dr Jon Tilbury, Medical Director for the PCT told Radio Scilly news that he wants people who feel they can take on ‘an influential role’ of representing patients to put themselves forward for membership of the steering group that will oversee the tender process.

The Trust wants up to two patient representatives able to attend meetings in person on or through a telephone or teleconferencing facilities.

Representatives from the PCT will be on the islands on 1st December to meet with anyone interested and explain what you’d have to do.

Link4Scilly cannot take an active part, as one of our functions is to hold the Primary Care Trust to account for their decisions, and contractors or providers for delivery of services, so there would be a conflict of interest. But we do think it is an important opportunity for island representation and hope that someone feels able and willing!
