Remembrance Day Service Takes Place In Church

Serving and former members of the armed forces, local emergency services, merchant navy and youth groups have attended this year’s Remembrance Day service at St Mary’s Parish Church.

Canon Peter Walker led the service with a sermon by Methodist Minister, Reverend Charlie Gibbs, on the theme of peacekeeping and a two-minute silence was observed as the church clock chimed 11 o’clock.

Banners were carried by local army cadets, and representatives from the Girl Guides and Brownies.

The service was followed by a procession headed by Police Sergeant Colin Taylor to the war memorial at Old Town Church, where wreathes were laid.
