Cheque Handed To Precious Lives Appeal

A cheque for £10,000 will be banked by the Precious Lives appeal organisers today.

The money for the new children’s hospice in St Austell was raised by islanders and handed over to their representative, Mary Murfin, at an event at the Atlantic Hotel on Friday night.

Mary says the amount raised by the islands has been impressive and that the generosity of the people here is recognised by the charity.

She says the £5m target to build the Little Harbour hospice has been reached but the real hard work now begins and the money raised in Scilly will go towards the running costs of the centre.

Mary visited Oriel Hicks to see the stained glass work she has been commissioned to make for the sanctuary in the hospice.

She says the first panels should be in place by the beginning of December.
