Art Students Visit Tresco

Cromwell's Tower, Tresco

Forty art students have been sketching, drawing and painting on Tresco as part of a residential week on the island.

During their stay they were given expert guidance from internationally renowned artist, Hugo Granville.

Hugo has been painting Tresco for years and splits his time between Suffolk and his studio at Palm Beach in Florida.

The students from the University of Falmouth stayed in cottages around the island with their tutors during the week.

There’s a link between Tresco and the University, as Lucy Dorrien Smith serves on their Board of Governors.

Mike Nelhams, the curator of the Abbey Gardens, says the students have made the most of the varied landscape on offer on Tresco and he’s hoping some of the students’ work will be on show on the island next year.

During their stay the students accompanied Hugo to view the art at Bryher’s Hell Bay Hotel.
