Scillonian Passengers Face Harbour Security Exercise

Passengers on the Scillonian III may have been surprised yesterday with more rigorous security procedures than usual.

The Harbourmaster’s Team was conducting their annual security exercise alongside staff from the Steamship Company as part of Government requirements by TranSec, the transport security division of the Department for Transport.

Assistant Harbourmaster, Alan Hartwell, told us they were carrying out baggage and personal searches on people going back on the Scillonian although they would usually be expected to do these types of searches on cruise ship passengers.

Alan says the searches are mainly aimed at counter terrorism activities and says no unusual items were found, other than those specially planted as part of the exercise.
