MP Quotes Scilly As Model Coastal Community

Scilly’s Member of Parliament has used our islands as an example of good practice in a speech on coastal communities.

Andrew George was a guest speaker at the Coastal and Marine All-Party Parliamentary Group yesterday.

The meeting was called to talk about the recently announced £26m fund which will go towards regenerating seaside areas. Andrew said that the sea is “not to just be gazed at and paddled in” but “it is a resource.”

He shared his views on the importance of fishing and the potential to generate sustainable wave power.

The session heard how flower farming and tourism coexist here and Andrew says there was a high awareness of our islands’ flower exports.
