Club Applying For Extension To Tennis Court

Court will be similar to this one on Bryher

Scilly could gain another multi-use games area, if planners approve an extension to the Garrison tennis court next month.

The club committee wants to remove the current concrete and tarmac base and replacing it with a green, artificial turf and sand surface. The size would be increased by 1.5m width and 3.7m length to match the  size of  Bryher’s new facility at 36m by 18m.

White markings for basketball and five–a–side football would be laid on the court.

There’s a lot of support for the plan. Barclays and LloydsTSB banks, the health centre and the Star Castle Hotel, whose guests sometime play tennis, have backed the application.

Duchy Land Stewart Chris Gregory has no objection and says he is aware that the club had intended expanding for some time.
