Cornwall Sustainability Awards Looking For Scilly Nominees

Organisers of the Cornwall Sustainability Awards are looking for nominations from the islands.

Anthony Weight from the awards committee says they’re interested to hear from companies and organisations that are minimising their environmental impact through reduced use of energy and water, lowering pollution or engaging with the community in novel ways.

There are a number of categories including Best Managed Company, Best Low Carbon Business and Best Sustainable Construction and previous nominees from the islands have included Tresco Estate.

One novel category is the Healthy Workplace award that has been introduced this year in association with the NHS. Anthony says there’s growing awareness that employers should make their place of work attractive and healthy to minimise stress, depression and other illnesses.

He added that companies in the southwest have a strong environmental ethos and want to look after the environment. Many of their previous years’ award winners have gone on to win national and even international prizes.

The awards are judged by experts in the environmental field using a points system and Anthony says companies should be able to show clear data for how they’ve reduced their impact and made changes over time.

The deadline for nominations is this Sunday (9th Oct) and all the necessary information can be found on their website here.
