New Tenants In The Bishop And Wolf

Debbie and Alan Aberlein

A new landlord and landlady are behind the bar at the Bishop and the Wolf pub.

Debbie and Alan Aberlein have moved from New Zealand to take up the tenancy.

They are originally from the UK but have lived in New Zealand for around 30 years, and while Alan says he’s not sure where in the world their furniture is, it’s not too much of a worry for them as they already have family here.

Their son Mark runs the High Tide restaurant on St Agnes and they’ve been here many times.

Debbie and Alan weren’t in the pub trade down under but have experience from previous work in Liskeard.

Debbie says she and Alan love being in Scilly and there are many similarities to New Zealand, with a good life style and nice people.

The couple want to create a friendly, traditional pub. Debbie says they want to combine the feeling and attitude of New Zealand’s chilled, up market bars and cafes, with what we expect from a good British pub.

And one of the first changes they’ve made has been to add a lino print of the Bishop lighthouse to the pub, given as a ‘pub-warming’ gift from their family.
