Question Time for MP and Church Leaders

Scilly's MP, Andrew George

Islanders have a chance to put their comments and questions to our Member of Parliament, Andrew George, in the Old Wesleyan Chapel tonight at 7.30pm.

And next Monday, four senior church leaders will let you do the same.

The Bishop of Truro, Tim Thornton and the Reverend Stephen Wild, Methodist Leader for Cornwall and the Islands, will be accompanied by the Reverend Jez Brown from the Baptist Church in Plymouth and the Roman Catholic Bishop of that city, the Right Reverend Christopher Bud, who will take questions during their three-day visit to the islands.

They’re coming to show a willingness to work together but also to meet islanders and hear their concerns.

Charlie Gibbs says it should take the format of television’s Question Time.

Charlie feels the four church leaders are sharing the podium to show they are prepared to work together. He says that things have changed for the church, both on the mainland and here in Scilly, and he’s concerned about how the church will work together in the future.

Charlie says he would like questions in advance to give the panellists time to prepare, but politics and non-church topics will be encouraged. He also hopes non-church people will attend.

Mary Gibbs will be the question master at the Old Wesleyan Chapel next Monday (10th Oct) at 7pm.
