Town Hall Theatre Could Be Refurbished

The Town Hall could be refurbished to create a more audience-friendly performance space.

Chief Planning Officer Craig Dryden attended the half yearly St Mary’s Theatre Club meeting on Tuesday to discuss improvements.

The male toilet is still out of order and Craig says they’d like to upgrade loos for wheelchair users. Council staff could be located to other buildings to free up office space for a green room and dressing area. Stage space won’t be reduced.

Jenny Byers says from the club says her refurbishment wish list would include comfortable retractable seating and better lighting with a sound and projection box.

Some Members have been impressed by the new school facilities but Jenny says the Town Hall is favoured by Theatre Club and Entertainers, because it is so accessible and the Council do their best to accommodate the productions.

She says “it would be lovely to see it come back to life as it is a little sad at the moment.”
