Tourism Department Warns Of Brochure Phone Scam

Tourist Information Centre in Hugh Town

If you receive a phone call offering to take your credit card information to pay for your Scilly Tourism brochure advert, it’s a scam.

Sophie Hughes from the Council’s Tourism department told us some islanders were contacted yesterday by a call centre worker, who asked for their details to book ad space.

Sophie says the booking deadline has passed and, as The Town Hall sends invoices in the mail, all paperwork has the Council logo on it. Payments should only be sent to the Town Hall.

It seems that phone scams targeting islanders are on the increase.

St Mary’s police say a number of residents have received unsolicited calls asking for bank account information and PCSO Shirley Graham says if in doubt, put the phone down.
