LEP Board Holds Meeting In Scilly

Members of the Local Enterprise Partnership board met in Scilly yesterday.

The body, made up of 11 board members, successfully pitched to the Government for the right to replace some of the functions of the Regional Development Agency for the islands and Cornwall.

The LEP is a private and public sector partnership and aims to support projects that benefit the wider economy.

The only local representative on the board is Philip Hygate  the chief executive of our Council.

They will assess areas of growth opportunity and help attract European or Government funds for those that they feel are commercially viable. Unlike previous bodies they won’t have a pot of money to distribute to lots of small businesses projects.

Scilly business leaders, councillors and members of the Local Action Group met for a lunchtime discussion yesterday with board members of the LEP, including representatives of the Eden Project, holiday lettings company, Classic Cottages and senior Cornwall councillors.

After the session in the old Wesleyan Chapel they went on a boat trip to Tresco.
