New Emergency Planning Store At Porthmellon

The Council has placed a new building on Porthmellon industrial estate.

The large shed will store equipment for the Emergency Planning department, which makes contingency plans covering floods, aviation accidents or visitors stranded by fog.

Head of Department, Rhona Holland, says emergency supplies, from oil booms to blankets, will all be in one place so the team won’t need to contact lost of key holders if they need access out of hours.

Signs have also gone up promoting a “One-Stop Safety Shop” at the back of what was Garden and Decor.

From January, staff will be able to advise on health and safety regulations and requirements and there’ll be some training delivered there. But nothing will be actually on sale.

I clearly remember a day about 8 years ago when it rained so much that that entire area there where they have put that shed was flooded.
Just behind the new shed is a small leat that drains the industrial estate and allot of water heads there in heavy rain..I wonder if that is the best spot for an emergency planning shed if it was needed in a proper flood?
    Just a thought..:-)
