Opening Of Sports Hall Delayed

New QE2 sports hall under construction

The opening of the new Queen Elizabeth Sports Hall on St Mary’s has been delayed.

It was meant to be ready for October 21st but that’s been put back to November 11th.

Phil Osmond of project management company, Mace, says bad weather and increased workload are factors in the delay. The scope of the project also extended when more funding was found, to double the number of sports courts to four and add changing rooms.

The builders, Kier, will hand over the hall on November 7th.

Phil doesn’t feel the delay will add to cost and he says it was thought best to open the facility when most people are here on the islands, rather than during the half term break.
