Islanders Raise £600 For Macmillan Big Coffee Morning Appeal

Lorraine Cheney and Lou Simpson

Islanders raised £600 last weekend for a charity that provides practical, medical and financial support for people affected by cancer.

St Austell Brewery is backing the national Big Coffee Morning appeal for MacmIllan Cancer Support and organiser, Lorraine Cheney, of the Atlantic Hotel said the fundraiser was held a week early here, on Saturday, because next weekend they have many guests coming in.

Margaret Teideman was on the door at the Atlantic Hotel and she was pleased at the amount of support for the event. She felt the poor weather on Saturday might have helped draw the crowds.

Lou Simpson, who is fighting cancer, helped staff the cake stall. Lou will continue the fundraising next Saturday by holding a coffee morning on the chemotherapy ward of Treliske Hospital.
