Warning To Dog Owners To Be Vigilant Over Kennel Cough

Our islands’ vet, Heike Dorn is warning dog owners to remain vigilant following an outbreak of Kennel Cough.

She says the outbreak, which hit the islands a few weeks ago, is gradually easing off, however there was another case last week. A number of pets on St Mary’s have gone down with the unpleasant condition after a visitor brought an infected animal on holiday.

She is recommending that dog owners should still consider getting their pets vaccinated against the disease if they haven’t already done so. The vaccine may not stop their dogs getting Kennel Cough, but it will make the symptoms easier for their dogs to deal with.

The vaccination costs £15 and will last around six months.
