Volunteers Turn Out For Porth Hellick Beach Clean

Porth Hellick Beach

Twenty volunteers helped clean up Porth Hellick beach and monitor rubbish washed ashore for the Marine Conservation Society on Saturday afternoon.

Around half of the helpers were visitors and five members school Green Team also assisted.

Clare Lewis says the majority of the rubbish was plastic water bottles and there were quite a few balloons from balloon releases or fast food outlets. These are often mistaken for jellyfish by turtles and other mammals who eat them and suffocate.

There were also some shotgun cartridges.

Everyone’s litter squashed together came to two large bags weighing about 26kg.

Clare says Porth Hellick is now looking really good without lots of bits of plastic dotted everywhere.
