Tresco Resident Awarded St Piran’s Cross In Special Ceremony

St Nicholas Church, Tresco

All of the islands’ Anglican church services were combined on Tresco yesterday morning as an award was given to a valued member of the St Nicholas Church congregation.

The Bishop of Truro awarded a St Piran’s cross, named after the Cornish patron saint, to Eve Cooper as a personal gift.

The small pin broach is a Celtic cross made from Cornish siiver.

Canon Donald Marr and Margaret Marr came back to Tresco from Cheshire for the presentation following a request from the Bishop of Truro.

Donald said it was in recognition of someone who had “truly gone the extra mile” and who gave “more than 100% to the community.”

He added that if he was to list Eve’s many and varied acts of service to the community then the congregation would have missed the lunch at the Community Centre because he would have been talking until Tuesday.

Canon Donald said that he had “known a few saints in his life but Eve is fun to be with and not all of them are.” He went on to say that, although Eve wouldn’t enjoy the attention, the congregation knew that she deserved the recognition.
