Cricket – T20 Match St Martin’s v. Bugle

Report by Colin Daly

Our old friends Bugle, on their 25th visit, gave us a good T20 match on Saturday 17th Sept.

They won the toss and put St. Martin’s in to bat first. Chris Hinds and J. Smith started out cautiously but then hit out a bit, finally going for 22 and 36 respectively.

As quite a few overs had gone, the later batsmen just went for runs giving a final total of 123 for 7.

Bugle, who had defeated St. Mary’s the day before, seemed to think this might be easily in their reach. But some quick wickets slowed the run rate and they looked like going down to a heavy defeat.

Then “Blade” and “Tango” came in and steadied the ship and so it came down to the last over with the visitors needing 8 to win.

The scores were level and two balls were left; it looked all up for St. Martin’s but then “Blade” was bowled out. The new batsman came in to face one ball and score one run to win.

He missed. Setting out to run, his bails were easily removed and the visitor’s score was 123 for 9 – a tie.

Great result and much analysis at the Hotel along with Bugle’s entertaining “fines court”.
