Precious Lives Appeal Reaches Crucial Target

The organiser of the Precious Lives Children’s Hospice appeal in Scilly say the campaign will continue even though the facility in St Austell has achieved its £5m target.

Gerorge Teideman says that around £70,000 has been generated by islands’ fundraising in the past 3 years for the facility which opens in 2 months. The first children will move into the hospice in November followed by an official opening by “an unamed Royal” in the spring.

George says the many islanders who have helped with the appeal are welcome to call in and look around when they are on the mainland.

From today, the charity will join a number of established appeals in Scilly in selling Christmas cards at the Atlantic Hotel.

The building costs target has been reached but they will still need to bring in over £1m a year to run the hospice and George says they’ll maintain the fundraising momentum in Scilly.

The next major event will be a formal dinner at the Atlantic Hotel on October 21st.

George says this year’s funds, a five-figure amount, will be presented along with quilts and blankets made for the children in the hospice. They have been made by the islands’ quilters group.
