New Tourism Body To Learn From Dartmoor Model

Tourist Information Centre in Hugh Town

Scilly’s future tourism body could be shaped by the success of a public and private sector partnership on Dartmoor.

At the moment a ‘Task and Finish’ group are putting together the framework for the a new organisation that will take on the roles of Islands Tourism, Island Marketing and the Council’s tourism body.

Some of the members of the 8-strong group are set to visit Devon in mid-october to see how the Dartmoor group has helped market local businesses and develop tourism.

Julian Pearce says they have doubled their membership base to around 600.

They’ve also developed an inspection scheme for local accommodation providers as well as offering training and advice seminars.

However, Duchy Land Steward, Chris Gregory told us they don’t plan to copy the Dartmoor model, just learn from group.
