Healthy Eating Tips For Under 5s On Offer

If you find it difficult to come up with ideas for your child’s lunchbox or want some suggestions for practical, affordable and tasty family meals, you’re being invited to the Play Zone at Carn Thomas on Monday.

Natalie Williams, a health supporter worker will be sharing tips on feeding under 5s. There are 68 under 5s on St. Mary’s and 34 on the off-islands.

Natalie’s sessions promote convenient food made from the fresh ingredients that many islanders can access but there’ll also be some hints on engaging fussy eaters.

Natalie says there are things you can do to make packed lunches more interesting, such as using cookie cutters to make fun-shaped sandwiches. And using some variety, such as wraps or pitta breads, even with the same fillings, can reawaken interest in young children.

Natalie says we’re lucky in Scilly not to have tempting fast-food outlets on the way home, but also says ready meals are not always a bad thing either – it’s just a case of checking the ingredients carefully.
