Penzance Chamber Urging Islanders To Support Heliport Move

Penzance Chamber of Commerce is urging islanders to write in support of British International Helicopters’ proposed heliport at St Erth.

The application will go before Cornwall planners before Christmas.

The Chamber supports the sale of the Penzance heliport to Sainsbury’s and the heliport relocation because they say the alternative is grim.

BIH is due to repay bank loans exceeding £12m over the next 3 years and the loans are secured on the heliport and other assets. The company made a loss in the last reported financial year to December 2009 so repayments cannot be made from profits.

Islanders can view the display panels at St Mary’s airport and Tresco heliport. BIH’s St Mary’s manager, Dave Page, wants islanders to fill out feedback forms so requirements can be taken into account in planning the new facility. Dave says if you think there is a need for long-term car parking or a shuttle service to a nearby destination, you should say so now.
