Help For Man Found Living Rough

St Mary’s police and the islands’ social services team have worked together to help return a homeless man, living rough on the Garrison, to the mainland.

The man, thought to be in his 50s, was brought to police attention after some residents saw him rifling through bins for food. PC Mark Blythe says he was polite and kept the area around the tent in which he was living very neat and tidy, but told them that he was home sick for Cornwall and could not afford the boat back.

He’d been in the area for around ten days and had sustained himself by foraging for food and fishing.

Staff are putting him in touch with a halfway house on the mainland.
