St Agnes Farmer Increasing Exports To Mainland

A St Agnes Farmer is doubling the amount of beef he exports to the mainland.

Rick Legg of Annet Farm is working with the Cornwall and Devon meat distributor, Etheringtons, and says he’ll send four animals to the mainland this year.

Managing Director, Mark Etherington, says the meat could end up in some high–end establishments. His company supplies Rick Stein’s restaurants in Padstow, and he also serves some businesses here on the islands. So it’s possible that meat reared on St Agnes could exported and then sold back to local businesses like the Star Castle.

Rick first learned about the mainland trader when he spoke with Rob at the Turk’s Head who is also a customer. Rick told us that, if plans to establish a St Mary’s abattoir come to fruition, his food miles will fall and he may be able to increase his exporting to the equivalent of five cattle a year.
