Police Warn Dog Owners After Livestock Incidents

St Mary’s police are warning the dog owners to keep their pets under control after reports that poultry have been killed and livestock bothered.

Farmers can shoot dogs that attack their livestock and PCSO Shirley Graham is concerned that one farmer may shoot any pets that attack his animals if it happens again.

Shirley says chicken have been attacked and, although no laws have been broken, dog owners should be acting in a more responsible way and controlling their pets.

PC Mark Blythe says some dogs have been wandering freely late at night – he saw one dog wandering around at 1.00am recently and he echoed Shirley’s concerns that livestock owners may take matters into their own hands and shoot a family pet.
