Andrew George Says He Has Led Health Reform Rebellion

Scilly's MP, Andrew George

Scilly’s MP says he has “led a rebellion” against the Government’s proposed NHS reforms.

Andrew George says he helped bring 40 amendments to the bill.

All Cornwall Liberal Democrat MP’s voted against the plans in the third reading of the bill but their Conservative counterparts backed the Government. Andrew George says that Liberals “were the architects of the NHS and they don’t want, by default, to become the architects of it’s demise.”

The proposals would give England’s GPs and clinicians more responsibility for spending the NHS budget and greater private sector competition will be encouraged.

The legislation has to get through the House of Lords in the autumn.

It’s very re-assuring to see our MP in the vanguard of these attempts to preserve the NHS. Hopefully he is spending some time on the Scilly/Penzance route issues too? Not quite sure about his efforts with Trinity House to make sure the Bishop Rock Lighthouse stays at full brightness though. Looked OK the other night.
