Police Uniform Proposal Already Happening In Scilly

Mainland police officers are unhappy about a think tank recommendation that they should wear their uniforms during the commute to work to increase police visibility.

The police federation claim it could expose officers to threats if criminals knew where they live but Scilly’s new police Sergeant, Colin Taylor, says St Mary’s police station is the only one in England where that’s already happening.

The three full-time officers walk to work in uniform – but it is just 15 seconds from the police accommodation to the police station front door.

It’s slightly longer drive of 5 minutes for PCSO Shirley Graham, who also drives in wearing her uniform.

Colin says he does understand why mainland officers wouldn’t want to be identified.
