Councillors Agree To Fund New Bunting

There is likely to be new bunting up in Hugh Town next summer after councillors agreed last night to fund new flags for ‘Ginger’ Jim Lydon.

He asked the Council community fund for £490 plus the delivery costs for 240m of bunting which will be used to celebrate special events and occasions. The current decorations are looking weather-beaten, he says.

Councillor Christine Savill joked that the flags have been up all through the summer this year to really wear them out and Councillors commended Jim for his work.

Marian Bennett said he was a good monitor of the public realm, often reporting flower boxes or street furniture that needed attention. Marion said she would have liked some of the Isles of Scilly flags to be included but Sue Pritchard pointed out that having them specially made would cost more.
