Cricket – St Mary’s Beat St Martin’s In Last Match Of Season

Report by Colin Daly

The last of the Thursday evening matches between St. Martin’s and St. Mary’s on the 1st September was shortened to 18 overs per side as the long evenings of high summer are gone.

St Mary’s won the toss and decided to bat first. St. Martin’s was missing some of its regular players so it gave a chance to some youngsters, who acquitted themselves well in the field.

B. Jakes top scored with 40 not out and J. Badcock scored 31. The total for the team was 142 for 5.

This proved too much for St. Martin’s who were all out for 92, with B. Gillet scoring 21 and J. Morton scoring 19. The youngsters had their chance to bat although in failing light.

The post match discussion agreed that it had been a good series with St. Mary’s winning 5 matches to St. Martin’s 2.
