TIC Criticised For Early Closing On Bank Holiday

Council Tourism staff say they’ll assess the Tourist Information Centre opening times at the end of this year.

Sophie Hughes has responded to comments on social media sites, which criticised the centre for closing at 2.00pm on Bank Holiday Monday. A visitor suggested that it should stay open when the town is busy.

Sophie says the opening has already been extended by two hours on Bank Holidays. It used to close at 12 noon. The TIC opens seven days a week from April until October and hours are extended when weather impacts on travel plans.

Sophie points out that the Hugh Town office remained open until 7.00pm during the Bank Holiday at the end of gig weekend. She says this contrasts with the mainland, where many tourist information centres in Corwall have been closed, leaving visitors with no service at all.

She added the staff aim to deliver the best service but it has to be matched by demand.
