Islands’ Vet Alerts Owners Over Kennel Cough Outbreak

Islands’ vet, Heike Dorn, is warning dog owners that their pets may need to be vaccinated after an outbreak of kennel cough.

A number of pets on St Mary’s have gone down with the unpleasant condition after a visitor brought an infected animal on holiday.

The vaccination costs £15 and will last around six months.

Hear Heike talking about the kennel cough outbreak

Heike says if your dog is showing symptoms, it’s too late for the vaccination and the illness will need to run its course. Most dogs will recover, but it’s not pleasant for the animal and a nuisance for the owner.

Heike says the infected dog was walked mainly around Hugh Town and the Garrison, so the outbreak is likely to show up here first.
