Four Charities Benefit From Tresco Fundraising Event

Four islands’ causes benefitted from a fundraiser on Tresco yesterday.

Money from the event at the Tresco Community Centre will be shared between the RNLI, motor neurone disease, the appeal for Tresco’s St Nicholas Church and the medical launch.

Rose Lock is Tresco fundraiser for  that appeal.

Rose says she volunteers her time to ensure the medical launch, which has been in operation for over 50 years, can continue it’s operations.

The service provides a boat for doctors visiting the ill and infirm on the off-islands and Rose says that’s a vital service. Patients who need to visit St Mary’s for non-emergencies are also taken on the launch, which she says relies heavily on donations.

Rose says a money tree was devised for the Tresco fundraiser, as a means of bringing in cash.

Pat Birch says seeing a friend suffer from motor neurone disease has encouraged her to fundraise with a silent auction, two lucky dips and a darts game on The Green.

Pat says the condition is debilitating and currently incurable, and that’s why she feels strongly about fundraising for research into a cure.
