Mobile Survey Shows Variable Service On St Mary’s

A nationwide survey by the BBC has revealed how variable mobile reception can be on St Mary’s.

In July, the corporation asked people to download an application from mobiles to show how good coverage was and over 40,000 people responded.

Data has been plugged into a UK map and a postcode search revealed that St Mary’s best coverage is on Vodafone, around Hugh Town, Telegraph, Holy Vale and Old Town.

Reception reports on O2 are restricted to the Hugh Town and Porthloo and with some Orange service reported around Telegraph.

Nobody reported using the 3 network.

Our islands still only have 2G coverage which means that it isn’t possible to access fast internet via a mobile handset.
