Lifelong Learning To Offer More Business Courses This Year

Many of the new courses on offer from September at Lifelong Learning will be business skills-orientated, according to team member Tom Scott.

The new brochure has gone to the printers and should be available in the library, Tourist Information Centre and Town Hall over the next fortnight.

Tom says if five or more islanders request a certain topic they’ll try and arrange a trainer to come over or for those teaching sessions to be delivered in real time through a mainland video link.

Among the courses to be offered this year, Truro College staff will explain how to overcome fears of public presentations and speaking at meetings in a one-day workshop in October.

A beginner’s web design course and a marketing session, helping businesses promote themselves using Facebook, is also on offer.

Jaclyn Pearson has devised a sustainability project theme in November and Jonathan Smith from Scilly Organics will share tips on growing vegetables.

Leisure sessions will include Christmas cake decoration, hosted by Rachel Easterbrook of the Scillonian Club.

Tom says it’s not guaranteed that all courses will run even when the programme is published as there has to be an appropriate level of take up of any sessions.
