Theatre Club’s Summer Show To End Early

St Mary’s Theatre Club’s summer show is ending early.

The last performances of Noel Coward’s Present Laughter will be next Wednesday and Thursday.

Producer and director, Maggie Perkovic, says they’ve had to call off the show as the lead actor, Neil Middleton, who is on stage for the majority of the performance, has announced he is leaving the islands.

Neil plays Gary Essendine and when he was off ill with a trapped nerve earlier in the season, they had to cancel shows then.

The Theatre club wins awards nearly every year and this years play has already viewed by a mainland-based adjudicator for the Cornwall Drama awards. She came to view the play at the start of August and Maggie says she was impressed, particularly with the set and costumes, but also heaped praise on Neil, Jane Pender and Tom Scott.

Maggie has been producer for around five years but this show will be her last. She says it’s time to step down and there are plenty of young people who are keen to take over. But she says she’s going to stay involved with the club.
