Tourism Staff Encouraging Businesses To Advertise In Brochure

Sophie Hughes with this year's award-winning brochure

Tourism staff at the Council are trying to encourage new businesses and companies that haven’t previously advertised in the islands’ holiday guide to sign up for ads for next year.

Some other tourist boards in our region have reported a significant drop in advertising revenue.

Sophie Hughes says the majority of islands’ businesses have agreed to promote themselves again but they have lost some clients on the mainland who have ceased trading or who are feeling the effects of the economic downturn.

Sophie says the brochure is a great promotional tool – they print 50,000 copies and there are another 40,000 downloads each year.

And she added that it’s important that the brochure is supported by businesses because money raised from it helps fund the Tourist Information Centre service.
