Planners Approve Balcony For Trench Lane Guesthouse

Trench Lane in Old Town, St Mary's

Councillors have approved the creation of a balcony on a guesthouse in Trench Lane.

Chief Planning Officer Craig Dryden didn’t feel it would overlook neighbours.

The doors and windows on the balcony will use uPVC, which is meant to be against the design guide, but as other homes in Trench Lane have uPVC windows, doors and cladding, Craig felt that was ok.

Some members felt the work to remodel the dormer window would improve the look of the guesthouse and owners’ accommodation and provide a viewing area looking towards Old Town Bay.

Marian Bennett felt the work would add interest to the current “austere” frontage of the building and Craig Dryden didn’t feel the change would be that noticeable from a distance.
