“Best Ever” St Martin’s Fete Is A Sell Out

Stallholders at yesterday’s St Martin’s fete say it has been the busiest event in recent memory.

Hordes of islanders and visitors attended the event right from the opening, with burgers selling out early in the afternoon and a supply of 60 toffee apples proving insufficient for the large demand.

Edna Goddard felt this was the biggest and best St Martin’s Fete ever and says the weather always seems to be kind to St Martin’s – she can only remember rain spoiling the event on one previous occasion.

Pirate Pete was taking pulling in cash from people wanting to find treasure on a map of the island while Keith Bradford was staffing the 75 metre water slide from the dunes into the sea.

This popular attraction had large queues and Keith said there were no problems apart from the slide getting shorter as the tide was coming in.

The cash is still being counted but it looks like last years £6000 income for the new Community Centre could be equalled or surpassed.
