Round-The-Islands Sailing Race Called Off

Boats taking part in the shorter race yesterday, which was later abandoned.

The windy conditions put pay to the Round-the-Island Race yesterday as it was felt the stretch of water to the eastern side of St Mary’s would be too challenging.

Organisers went ahead with a sailing competition between the islands from St Mary’s quay, taking in The Bacon and Crow and Nut Rock but that race had to be abandoned, again, because of the weather.

Truan Hick says they hope to have a rerun either next Sunday or the one after.

The Harbourmaster and Sailing Centre staff helped retrieve some boats that had got into difficulty.

At the time the race was abandoned, Ted Moulson was the lead multihull and Alan Davis was ahead of all monohulls.
