Council To Visit Methodist Homes Elder Care Centres On Wednesday

Old School site could become elder care scheme

Council representatives are visiting two Methodist Homes elder care projects on the mainland this Wednesday.

They will be accompanied by Islands’ Methodist Minister, Charlie Gibbs, on the visit to the Methodist-run schemes based near Saltash.

The Council are struggling to find funds to develop elder care social housing on the site of the old secondary school at Carn Thomas.

Charlie has suggested that funding could potentially come from a partnership between the Methodist care-provider charity and the Council, which would involve selling the Methodist chapel and the Manse.

Charlie has worked previously as a Chaplain in a Methodist Homes scheme and says they are at the cutting edge of dementia care.

He told us the visit will be a chance for the Council to look at how Methodist Homes operate, particularly the ones near Saltash, which are a similar model to the scheme proposed for here in Scilly.
