Council Says Bins Emptied Daily Following Complaints About Seagulls

Overflowing waste bins have been giving the seagulls a great time, according to a St Mary’s resident, but the Council says they are now removing rubbish daily.

Katie Steggles says she has had to go out and clear up litter strewn around the Strand near the Dairy and did not receive a response to her complaint to the Council about not emptying the bins.

The Town Hall did respond to Katie after we emailed them.

A Council spokesperson says the bins are emptied daily in peak season, starting in August. For the rest of the tourist season, the collection is on weekdays only.

The bins are emptied in the mornings Monday to Friday, five days a week, during the tourist season, but during August, and commencing this weekend coming, bins are emptied seven days a week.

Yeah, nothing quite like recycled fish & chips.

Very impressive. Though I am surprised that the quantity of rubbish necessitates rubbish collection so often. my question is, is this rubbish that could have been recycled?
