An Antigua-registered, 9500 tonne cargo container ship, The Karin Schepers, has run ashore off Cape Cornwall narrowly missing Treveen Cliff.

Sennen Cove and St Ives lifeboats, and St Ives Cliff Rescue, were called to the incident by Falmouth Coastguard at 5.30am this morning

The vessel didn’t hit any rocks and, as the tide was on the flood, the Master was able to float her off the bottom. A RNAS helicopter has flown over the ship and confirmed there is no damage or pollution.

She was been escorted towards Wolf Rock before continuing on her journey. The vessel was on her way to Rotterdam with crew of 13 on board.

It is the second time in three years that the ship has run aground. On March 22nd 2009, she ran aground in the Baltic Sea between Denmark and Sweden and had to be pulled free by tugs.
