Yachts Set Off On Annual Islands Race

28 yachts were registered to take part in the ‘Penzance Around Scilly And Back’ Sailing Race, which set off at 8pm last night.

The annual race has been held on for 32 years and is the flagship event in Penzance Sailing Club’s calendar.

Jean Hall from the club says that the various boats, up to 40 foot in length and including trimarans and catamarans, are being crewed by sailors from as far away as Wales. She added that around half of the entries are from crews outside of their club and it’s growing every year.

The club will hold a race around the islands on Sunday before returning back to the mainland on Monday.
