Cricket – Tresco v St Mary’s

Report by Ben Jakes

Tresco, Thursday 21st July.

Tresco won the toss inserting St Mary’s to bat.

This decision looked good, when St Mary’s lost five quick wickets. However this brought Joe Badcock and Kane Goddard together, who got St Mary’s back on track scoring 38 and 48 respectively, St Mary’s ending on 129 for 8 off their twenty overs.

Tresco took all their catches and made St Mary’s work hard for their runs, the pick of Tresco’s bowling being Simon Sandison who took 3 wickets for 15 runs.

Tresco’s reply was made all the more difficult by a hostile opening bowling spell from Joe Badcock, while a miserly spell from Tony Gilbert kept Tresco quiet.

When those two had finished their overs, this bought Kane Goddard on to bowl who ended taking 4 wickets for no runs off two overs, making him St Mary’s man of the match.

Top scorer for Tresco was Simon Sandison with 8, Tresco being bowled out for 29 runs, giving St Mary’s a win by 100 runs.

Next St Mary’s game away to St Martin’s on Thursday 28th, there is also a combined Island team playing the MCC on Tuesday 26th on Tresco at 12pm.
