Sports and Entertainment Event Being Organised For October

Mark Twynham

A family event to replace the now-defunct Sport and Music Festival, is being planned for the 2nd October.

Mark Twynham and Five Islands School P.E. teacher, Martin Songhurst, are planning a duathlon.

Mark told us that there will be various sporting challenges on the day, with participants undertaking a 5 mile run followed by either a 5 mile or 25 mile bike ride. He’s hoping that people will do the challenge in teams and people can share the riding and running as a relay.

There’ll be junior 5-a-side football and mixed adult and junior netball tournaments.

Scilly bands and music performers will also take part in the event and, while the venue isn’t sorted yet, it’s likely that some of the event will be inside because of the weather risk at that time of year.

Mark says the event is being organised to boost the reserves of the Adam Mallon Sports Fund. Adam was passionate about sports, and the fund was set up in his memory to provide support for youngsters who need to travel to the mainland to play their sports or develop their skills through training.

Unfortunately, the fund has been running low, and Mark hopes that mixing entertainment with sporting challenges will be a good way to bring in the cash.
