Teenagers Caught Out Swimming Between Agnes and Gugh

The St Mary’s lifeboat was asked to rescue five teenage swimmers who were caught out by the tide between St Agnes and Gugh on Saturday evening.

The lifeboat didn’t launch as an onlooker got hold of a life ring and the other swimmers went sideways and managed to get to shore after paddling into the shallows.

Local boats were on standby to help.

John Peacock told us that he was going towards them in his boat. He said the rising spring tide caught them out. Often the water floods over the bar faster than a person can swim.
