School Football Club Awards Ceremony Next Saturday

It will be an important weekend for the Five Islands School football club next weekend.

On Saturday it’s the annual awards presentation.

The club is at its most popular this year with 91 pupils involved for regular football matches and training sessions. The club has also developed a good relationship with Plymouth Argyle, with occasional visits from club professionals and trips to train with their coaches on the mainland.

There are a number of awards that recognise not just technical ability and skill but also perseverance and attitude, which football club chairman Dave Stone feels is important.

And Dave says that, to mark the move to the new school, the club will be awarding new prize shields for each age group.

He told us he feels the ceremony is a chance for the youngsters to pick up their awards in front of their peers and parents, an audience of around 150.

Dave says the club structure has also developed this year. There have been five new committee members coming on board, with jobs such as secretary and welfare officer and Dave says this has allowed the club to deal with the regulations and paperwork involved with being FA members.

The club also has seven coaches but would still welcome anyone else who wants to help train the youngsters.

The ceremony takes place at Carn Gwavel on Saturday 23rd July at 3.00pm.
