Islands Experience Power Blackout

St Mary's power generator

A short power cut blacked out all of the islands yesterday afternoon, at around 2.45pm.

The mainland supply failed and within four minutes, St Mary’s power station cut in and started generating electricity locally.

Ritchie Christopher of Western Power says he was on duty at the power station when the blackout occurred and told us the equipment “did what it was supposed to do.”

Ritcie says our power was restored much quicker than in West Cornwall.

The fault occurred in the Hayle area.
